Important: the rebate covers one split system per home
The VEU rebate applies to one unit. If you want split systems in several rooms, the other units are full price, about $2,800 to $3,600 each. For 3 or more rooms, a multi split system or ducted system usually works out cheaper, because the whole system earns the rebate.
What changes the price
- The heater you are replacing. Replacing gas ducted heating earns a bigger rebate than replacing a gas wall heater.
- Size. A 7 to 8 kW unit suits a living area of about 41 to 60 m². Smaller rooms can use a smaller unit.
- Minimum payment. VEU rules say you pay at least $200 inc GST for a split system under 10 kW, which is why the cheapest price is $200.
- No gas heating? Without a gas heater to replace there is no VEU rebate, so you pay the full installed price.
